Let the fasting begin!

Posted on

So Jake and I sat down today and did the excrutiating chore of hammering out our FINANCES. gaaaaaah!!! Does it make anyone else as nauseaus as it makes me?!

What we are left with is totally do-able… on paper. When it comes to our wills to stick to it, that’s another story. We’re both very nervous, but also very much want this to succeed.

With what we have figured out, we are both left with $25 each to spend however we choose, or save towards a big purchase. So for instance, if I want a pair of $30 shoes, I either find a cheaper pair or wait until next months “allowance” to add to my $25. NO CHEATING ALLOWED. Same for Jake.

We are left with putting $250 in savings each month, which if we can stick to it, will be awesome for us!!

And because we disagree on tithing, we are starting out tithing $120, and will increase it to $180 in April with a goal of reaching that 10% tithe little by little. We have always disagreed on the AMOUNT to tithe, so the fact that we are starting with something is better than nothing…..which is what we usually end up doing when we disagree so much. πŸ˜†

So, glad we have this worked out, and now just hoping and praying we STICK TO IT!!! I even went to the bank and got out the EXACT amount of cash we need for things, divvied it up into their own envelopes, and put it in the safe, only to be taken out (and put back WITH the change) when we need it. πŸ˜‰

And no, we aren’t on a Dave Ramsey kick, not that there is any wrong with him at all. We’re on a “getting kinda tired of over drawing our account on accident and we’d like some savings” kind of kick. πŸ˜‰

  2. Haha. Well you are working pretty parallel to Dave Ramseys style. Great minds must think alike. πŸ™‚ Glad y’all are finding your groove. We are working the Dave plan. It has helped us survive with little to no income since Christmas. Which is amazing because normally this time of year we are really really struggling. I think, in general, when God sees us becoming better stewards of money He blesses our efforts. Y’all are on the right track. Keep up the good work!
